T. Brown Commits to ASU. Will He Visit SJSU?

Linebacker Thomas Brown of Serra High School in Gardena, Calif., is scheduled to visit San Jose State this weekend. However, today he gave a verbal commitment to Arizona State. Is the visit still on for this weekend? Inside Sparta spoke with Brown to find out.

"Yes, I did commit to Arizona State," Thomas Brown said. "It's a soft commit though as I still intend to take my visits and check out what else is out there."

One of those visits is this weekend, to San Jose State. The three-star middle linebacker from Serra High School in Gardena, Calif., has never been to San Jose, which has been the case for many visitors this recruiting season. It will remain to be seen of Spartans head coach Mike MacIntyre and crew can woo him from the Sun Devils.

"I really didn't get to pay too much attention to their games this season," Brown said. "But I know they're an up and coming program and I want to check them out."

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Brown sports an impressive list of offers. Along with Arizona State, his list includes Colorado, Nebraska, SMU, Utah, and a certain Northern California school.

"Coach (Charles) Clark is recruiting me and he gave me an offer," he said. "I talked to Coach (Mike) MacIntyre and he confirmed it."

Along with the visit to San Jose State this weekend, Brown said he will visit ASU sometime in Jan. That visit is set though he didn't recall the date. He said he is also planning to visit Colorado in January.

At this time the Sun Devils are without a coach. on Nov. 28 ASU fired head coach Dennis Erickson and have yet to name a replacement. However, Brown made the pledge anyway because of his closeness to the staff still at ASU.

"I have a great relationship with Coach (Steve) Broussard," he said. "I'm real comfortable with him. If the staff changes after the new head coach comes in then I'll think about things, but right now I'm good with Arizona State."

Arizona State takes on Boise State in the Maaco Bowl on Dec. 22 in Las Vegas, Nev.
