Joe Gigantino Talks About SJSU Visit

His teammate, linebacker Brad Kuh, didn't need to see anything else before deciding to attend and play football at San Jose State. But Joe Gigantino is taking a more studied approach. He joined Kuh on an official visit to SJSU, and talked to Inside Sparta about his plans.

Bellarmine Prep of San Jose is heading to the CIF Division 1 State Finals in Carson, Calif. on Dec. 16 to play Santa Margarita. Two of their star linebackers were on the campus of San Jose State last weekend on their first official visits. Brad Kuh made his commitment to SJSU shortly after returning home. Joseph Gigantino is taking things a bit more slowly.

"The trip went great," he said. "I sat down and had a good talk with Coach Mac and I'm going to wait a little while longer before deciding."

Gigantino added that he wants to take his official visit to Cal Poly on Jan. 6 and is hoping to get some more attention from other schools.

"I may have some walk-on opportunities at Colorado, San Diego State, and Washington," he said.

A San Jose native, Gigantino, like his teammate, had never set foot on the San Jose State campus prior to the weekend visit. As has been the case with practically every prospect, the experience was eye-opening.

"It was really cool, far more than I expected," he said. "Now that I've seen the weight room, and seen things behind the scenes it was a lot different than what I'd thought all these years."

Junior safety Rob Fiscalini was Gignatino's host, he said. Being a life-long resident there wasn't much about the city of San Jose that would be new to Gigantino, but they did get to spend time around the campus.

"We did go out for dinner and saw Christmas in the Park," he said. "We watched film with the position coaches and I got to talk to the academic people. I really got to see a lot of San Jose State, which was all new to me."

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Gigantino is being slated for the middle linebacker position.
