Villanueva Clarifies Commitment to SJSU

Offensive lineman Fernando Villanueva committed to San Jose State in December. After doing so he received an offer from Colorado State and scheduled an official visit to Fort Collins. After giving it some thought, he decided his commitment to SJSU was enough.

When offensive lineman Fernando Villanueva of Independence High School in San Jose committed to San Jose State in December, he stated one of the reasons for doing so was that the SJSU campus was close to home, which would give his family the opportunity to see him play. However, an unexpected offer from Colorado State caused him to consider other options. As such he scheduled a visit to check out the Fort Collins campus.

He was even considering a visit to Nevada, which had yet to offer but was showing some interest.

After pondering his options, however, he has reaffirmed his commitment to the Spartans and told Inside Sparta that he will be signing with SJSU on National Signing Day.

"I canceled my visit to Nevada and to Colorado State," he said. "I made my decision to go to San Jose State and that's where I want to be. We'll be doing an announcement at my school on Feb. 1."

In other news, Zach Hutchins of Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, NV has switched his verbal commitment to Montana State.
