Chibu Onyeukwu reopens his recruitment

2016 Contra Costa defensive end Chibu Onyeukwu committed to San Jose State in December after an official visit.

Chibu Onyeukwu has decommitted from San Jose State and reopened his recruitment, a source told InsideTheSpartans.com.

Onyeukwu had narrowed down his recruitment to San Jose State and Fresno State through the season. He visited FS on Dec. 4 and SJSU on Dec. 11. At the conclusion of his visit to San Jose State, he committed to the Spartans. Since then, however, reports began to surface that SJSU defensive line coach James Jones may not be retained by San Jose State. SJSU remains in good favor with Onyeukwu, but he decided to reopen his recruitment given the uncertainty.

Fresno State, meanwhile, currently remains without a defensive coordinator and may have more coaching changes too. With the two schools he was considering closest facing coaching situations, Onyeukwu has widened his recruitment. He recently received an offer from UCF and will be visiting the school on Jan. 22. He also plans to visit San Diego State in January.
