Mekhi Stevenson decommits from San Jose State

La Mesa (Calif.) Helix wide receiver Mekhi Stevenson has reopened his recruitment.

Mekhi Stevenson was the third recruit to commit to San Jose State’s 2016 class, but he will likely sign elsewhere on Feb. 3. The two-star receiver from La Mesa (Calif.) Helix has decommitted from San Jose State and is considering offers from Utah State, UNLV and Colorado State.

“I’m not committed any more,” Stevenson said. “I’m keeping my options open and I’m going to take some visits over the next weeks. I’ll make my decision on Feb. 3”

Stevenson’s primary recruiter was coach Joe Staab. Once Staab was let go from SJSU, communications dropped off.

“I’m still considering them, but I know they had some coaching changes so I haven’t really been talking to the coaching staff as much as I used to,” Stevenson said. “I was talking to coach Staab and he’s not there anymore.”

Stevenson has visited Colorado State, will visit Utah State and is also considering UNLV.

“I’m looking for a school that has a good film program because that’s what I want to get into when I go to college,” Stevenson said. “Also the feel for the coaches and the team. I know coaching changes happen often, so at least I’d know my teammates will be there for me.”
