One-On-One with San Jose State commit Mikey Grandy

Palo Alto (Calif.) offensive lineman Mikey Grandy discusses his decision on San Jose State.

InsideTheSpartans, Question: How did you first get in contact with San Jose State and why did you ultimately choose them?

Mikey Grandy , Answer: “San Jose State was my first offer. They were pretty much the first school that came in contact with me. They grew on me. At first, I wasn’t thinking about going over there. But the coaches seemed nice, I took a couple visits over there and I liked it. In October, I talked it over with my family and came to think that it would be the best fit for me.”

Q: We moved you from a two-star recruit to a three-star recruit and you were gaining interest from Arizona and Oregon until you had that injury right?

A: “I tore my PCL and meniscus in my third game of my senior year. Once that happened, recruiting stuff slowed down and schools kind of stopped communicating. But San Jose State was still there and they still wanted me so that that felt good.”

Q: How did SJSU keep in contact with you throughout that time?

A: “They just asked me how I was doing. They were pretty consistent with their checkups to see how I was doing, like the academic stuff. Once I told them, they said that the scholarship was still good.  That felt good, it felt like they wanted me. Everybody want to play for somebody that wants them. I think that’s another reason why I chose San Jose.”

Q: Where are you at with that injury?

A: “I just had surgery (before signing day). They said probably around five months, so I should be ready to go around late June.”

Q: You’re very aggressive on film, what do you think you’ll bring to SJSU?

A: “I think I’ll bring that aggressiveness. Every lineman, their goal every play is to pancake somebody, pancake as many people as they can. I think the style of offense San Jose State runs will give me a lot of opportunity to do that and show what I can do.”
