Let the party begin!

Coach Fitz Hill released last night his first crop of new signings for the JC and mid-year transfer signing period.

Junior wide reciever Kendrick Starling (6 foot 1, 195 lbs) from Navarro JC in Corsicana, TX, and big junior guard Jusin Arrington (pictured above) who's stats are 6-3, 305lbs comes to SJSU from Laney College in nearby Oakland, CA. (We are trying to currently verify his 40 timing).

Starling and Arrington lead this years signing class.

Also signing were freshman guard Matt Cantu (6-3, 290lbs) from Capistrano Valley High School in San Juan Capistrano; junior defensive tackle Dorsey Mitchell (6-4, 327lbs) from Compton College; junior tackle Elliot Tupea (6-3, 292lbs) from Dixie College in St.George, Utah.

Big Jason Gustus, of Hartnell Junior College (Salinas, CA) also gave the green light to SJSU's football program.

Defensive lineman Jason Gustus (6-0, 300, Salinas H.S and Hartnell JC "Salinas", CA) was an impact player for the Hartnell Panthers throughout the 2000 and 2001 seasons.

Gustus is strong and also quick for his size. He can play nose guard or a three technique on the D-line. He was a first team All-Coast Conference defensive lineman as a freshman and was a major recruit for the Hartnell Panthers in 2001.

Hartnell Head Coach,Larry Souza, compiled a winning record of 8-3 with the assistance of Gustus.

Gustus and the Hartnell team Defeated American River Community College in Santa Cruz, CA at the annual Lions Bowl 34 to 21.

Rounding out last nights signings were junior center Jeff Gordon (6-5 295lbs) from Iowa Central in Fort Dodge, Iowa; junior defensive back Ashanti Davison (5-10 190lbs) from Chabot College in Hayward; and junior quarterback Scott Rislov (6-2 216lbs) from Ellsworth College in Iowa Falls, Iowa.

Rislov is an exciting signing, as SJSU is short handed at talent regarding the QB position. Rislov has a very, very strong arm and will give Arroyo a run for his money in the spring.

Coach Hill has also scheduled a meeting at the Hilton Hotel on Feb. 6th at 6:00 pm to introduce and announce the additional new football recruits. Every one is invited to attend this event. This is the first time a coach from SJSU will be announcing his latest signings from a place like the Hilton in downtown San Jose.

Expect more surprises from Coach Hill as we draw closer to kick-off this fall.
