The Owls are 9-0 in WAC play and bring a 13-game winning streak against the league into Friday's game... San Jose State is 25-9 after winning eight of nine games during its trip to Hawaii last week.
The Spartans lost the opener of its WAC series with Hawaii on March 22, then won eight straight games to take that series and the Rainbows' Easter Tournament championship.
Rice is ranked third nationally in this week's Baseball America staff rankings, in the Baseball Weekly/ESPN coaches' poll, and in the Collegiate Baseball ranking.
San Jose State is unranked...Rice leads the all-time series with SJSU by a 15-4 margin, including a 6-3 edge at San Jose. Last season, Rice won four of its six games with San Jose State, but the Spartans won two of three at the Muni.
The Spartans and Owls series started in the 1997 season when both teams began playing in the Western Athletic Conference. The Spartans trail the Owls, 4-15, in the all-time series. The Owls have two streaks where they won six consecutive games over San Jose State.
Last season Rice won four of the six games played. The Owls swept at Reckling Park, but it was the Spartans winning the series in San Jose taking two of the three games played. Rice had won 12 consecutive WAC series dating back to March 24-25, 2000, prior to losing two of three at San Jose last season.
