This will be a regional tournament labeled the "Coaches versus cancer" Classic.

Some of the teams participating will be the university of Portland, Texas Tech, San Jose State, and one more team to be announced shortly.

This is a Jimmy V foundation cancer research sponsored event.

The Coaches vs. Cancer Classic features 16 teams from across the country competing for the right to play for the tournament championship.

The event tips off the college basketball season as four of the nation's top-ranked teams host opening-round games.

The top three players that we expect to lead the charge for SJSU are Alex Elam and DJ Brown. They were noted as the best players during the spring workouts.

Tyree Gardner is also expected to make a nice contribution this year.

Yesterday, we saw the team working out at the weight training facility at the south campus next to Spartan Stadium.

The guys were running in the sand pit, and lifting some weights.
