Here is a glimpse of what to look for this saturday.
It looks as though senior Charles Pauley will be the star receiver for the Spartans this year, and sophomore RB Lance Martin will fill the shoes of "The Dynamo" Deonce Whitaker, and Jammin Jarmar Julien.
The offensive line has some rebuilding to do, with senior LaMons Walker starting at center, and being a leader up front for the other big men in the trenches.
Senior Marcus Arroyo looks to lead the offense, but expect fierce competition from Junior college transfer Scott Rislov, who led the offense on one of it's long scoring drives culminated by a 4-yard pass to senior wide receiver Charles Pauley during practice a few weeks ago.
The other potential QB, Beau Pierce, remains a question mark. Don't expect Pierce to roll over and play dead this saturday, however. The competition at the QB position is gonna be out right fierce!
More questions remain about the defense. Although they have turned in two good performances in two controlled scrimmages in past practices, they continue to give up TDs when the offense is in the Red Zone. Most of the the heavy hitters projected to start for the Spartans are on campus, with the exception of Eddie Brown (6-3 295), JC transfer from Texas. Does anybody know where this kid is?
Coach Hill was recently quoted as saying "We want to improve our fundamentals both on offense and defense. We want to become a better tackling team on defense and, basically, be sound with what we're doing. On offense, we want to work on our execution and take better care of the ball. It's real simple. We want to get better."
So, get out to the spring game this saturday, and let's see if Coach Hill can muster his motivational words into a winning tradition this year!
