Hockey Sweeps CU to Remain Unbeaten

San Jose State ice hockey solidified its position as the No. 1 team in the West with a convincing sweep of No. 4 Colorado over the weekend. A stifling defense, led by First Team All-West Region goaltender Ryan Lowe, allowed only one goal in two games.

After the San Jose State ice hockey team followed up its Oct. 28 10-1 romp of Colorado State with a hard-fought 1-1 tie, Spartan captain Ray Kellam expressed the wish that his team had saved some of the goals scored on Friday for Saturday's game. Consider the lesson learned as the Spartans evened out the scoreboard during this weekend's sweep of Colorado, taking Friday's game 4-1, and following up with the second shutout of the season on Saturday, 5-0.

SJSU goalie Ryan Lowe was the star of the weekend; turning away 30 of 31 shots on Friday, and all 38 Buffalo scoring attempts on Saturday. "San Jose's goaltending was phenomenal," Colorado head coach Jeff Eaton said after Saturday's game. "I thought (Lowe) deserved to win, he played outstanding. I thought we had a lot of quality chances and we just couldn't score."
