Drake 82, San Jose St 64 (Women lose to SCU)

The Bulldogs of Drake University handed it yet again to SJS, as the Spartans were drubbed 82-64 at the Events Center on the SJSU campus saturday. The Demetrius Brown spotlight was shinning yet again, as the senior forward scored 19 points (8-10 shooting) in his first game back from an intestinal viral infection in his abdomen.

Chaun Brooks shot a perfect 5-for-5 from 3-point range to lift Drake over San Jose State 82-64 on Saturday.

Brooks, who had tried only four 3-pointers in the Bulldogs' first eight games, didn't attempt a single 2-pointer and missed two of his eight free throws in leading all scorers with 21 points.

Drake (6-3) jumped on the Spartans (4-6) early and led 50-27 at halftime.

The Bulldogs built up a 25-point advantage at 52-27 with 18:59 to go and held on from there.

The game marked the return of San Jose State's leading scorer, Demetrius Brown, who had sat out the four previous games with a bacterial infection on his abdomen.

Brown paced the Spartans with 19 points and missed only two of his 10 field-goal attempts.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University gained another three points tonight to extend its Rivalry Series lead over San Jose State to 17-2.

The Spartans were beaten 81-70 at the Leavey Center.

Santa Clara took a 5-0 lead on a jumper and a trifecta. The Spartans (3-5), who never led had the score tied at 15 points with 13:37 left in the first half.

The Spartans completed the half with a 10-3 run to send things into the break with a four-point spread.

In the second half San Jose State couldn't stop the Bronco bleeding, as SCU pumped up shot after shot as the Spartans never got back into the game.
