The Spartans will travel to Los Angeles for a September 5, 2009 game against the Trojans.
The meeting will be the fourth between the two schools. Southern California and San Jose State faced each other at the Los Angeles Coliseum in 1995, 2000 and 2001 with the Trojans winning each game.
"We want our fans to enjoy Spartan football home and away. This game fits our new philosophy of playing as many Western teams as possible and USC is the best there is at this point. It will be exciting for San Jose State to play against them," says second-year San Jose State University football coach Dick Tomey. Now in his 26th season as a NCAA Division I-A head coach, Tomey's teams at Hawaii and Arizona were a combined 4-8 in games against USC.
"We are thrilled with the opportunity to play the University of Southern California. Thousands of San Jose State University graduates live and work in Southern California. They can mark down September 5, 2009, wear their blue and gold to the Coliseum and cheer for San Jose State," says San Jose State University director of athletics Tom Bowen.
