We here at SpartanThunder.com are always striving to bring to cyber Spartans around the globe the latest information on your San Jose State Spartans.
We have held on-line chat sessions with coaches Tomey, Nessman, and Richard, as well as with our fabulous athletic director, Tom Bowen.
One thing we noticed is that we never had the Spartan Foundation president grace us with his thoughts in regards to the one organization that helps drive SJSU athletics and it's student athletes.
Well, we placed a phone call to the new Spartan Foundation president, Bill Bischoff, and guess what?
He actually called us back!
Below you will find a letter that he wrote exclusively to the SpartanThunder.com fan base, and to Spartan fans across the internet as well.
Dear SpartanThunder.com readers,
I am proud and excited to be the new President of the Spartan Foundation.
These are exciting times with all the positive developments occurring in the Athletic Department at SJSU.
As President, I will do everything in my power to move the Spartan Foundation toward its ultimate goal of fully funding all San Jose State University athletic scholarship opportunities.
A little about me.
I am a graduate of SJSU, obtaining a BS degree in Civil Engineering in 1963 and a Masters Degree in Geotechnical Engineering in 1965.
During my college studies, I was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. After 40 years of engineering practice, I recently retired from my profession as the manager of a large engineering firm in San Jose (Woodward-Clyde Consultants).
Currently, I am a member of the Alumni Advisory Council to the Department of Civil Engineering at SJSU, the Rotary Club of San Jose, and a number of other organizations.
I am married to Sally whom I met at SJSU. We have two children and one grandson and another on the way.
My primary motivation to help Spartan Athletics is to bring more pride and prestige to the University. SJSU is a great university, ranking high nation wide in many areas of major studies.
An outstanding Athletics program will help make our university more visible.
I am also motivated to help student athletes as well.
Many students attending SJSU on athletic scholarships have testified that without the scholarship, they would have been unable to obtain a college degree.
Arron Oberholser, recent winner of the AT&T Invitational PGA golf tournament at Pebble Beach, testified to this situation several years ago.
Contributing to the Scholarship drive and being a member of the Spartan Foundation is one of the best ways you can help SJSU Athletics.
For this years fund drive, which begins in March, the Spartan Foundation has set its scholarship fund raising goal at $1,000,000.
This is a 25 percent increase over last year's cash contributions but its badly needed. It will take a lot of work and dedication by our drive workers, but I'm sure we can reach that goal.
But we need everyone's help.
If you're not a member, please join by making your tax-deductible contribution. If you're already a member, try to increase your annual pledge by 25 percent if you can.
Ask your friends to help.
We definitely need to expand our membership in the Spartan Foundation.
Call the Spartan Foundation office if you need some help, 408-924-1219. Or, go to sjsuspartans.com and click on "giving".
