The team took to the practice field early Sunday evening with San Jose State Head Coach Dick Tomey very upbeat about the effort of the team when speaking to the entire squad at the end of the session.

The many fans in attendance were upbeat as well – not only with seeing the team improve each and every practice session over the Summer but also with the fact that the much-anticipated 2006 season is less than a week away.

For The Many Spartan Road Warriors:

For those who will be traveling to the afternoon game this Saturday to see the Spartans battle the University of Washington at Husky Stadium in Seattle the San Jose State Alumni Association, led by Executive Director Derrick Morgan and a tremendous Alumni Association staff, will be hosting a pre-game party for Spartan fans from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Sylvan Theatre on the University of Washington campus.

I can tell you from attending a number of the Alumni pre-game parties on the road last year that this is a great event with top-notch food and the chance to meet fellow Spartan fans as well as many members of the University's Athletic Department – all in a relaxed and casual atmosphere.

For all of the information that you could be looking for on the Alumni pre-game party and to RSVP for this event (by the way did I mentioned that the food is free?) please visit the Alumni Association's web site at Alumni association web site click here!

The 411 You Need for Every Game:

Whether you watch the game in person or not, if you are following the game an invaluable resource is the Football Fact Sheet that Lawrence Fan, the Sports Information Director for San Jose State, puts together every week prior to every football game. You can access and download this week's official Football Fact Sheet on the web site here: Official fact football data sheet

These weekly fact sheets are top-notch and they provide each fan with tons of useful information in an easy-to-follow and concise format. Mr. Fan does a superb job of putting these fact sheets together – not to mention all of the other tremendous work he has done for the University for over 25 years as our S.I.D.. Thank you Lawrence.

Meet the Press – Tomey Style:

If you have not done so already you can check out this week's video streamed San Jose State University football press conference on the web site by clicking here: SJSU Video streamed press conference

In addition to Coach Tomey this week's conference features two of the Spartans top returning players for the upcoming season – Senior Wide Receiver James Jones and Junior Linebacker Matt Castelo.

Spartan Spotlight:

For San Jose State fans in the Bay Area one of the many exciting events that the Athletic Department and the Alumni Association have put together is the Spartan Spotlight where every few weeks numerous San Jose State fans and Athletic Department memebers have a great time together with excellent food at the Smoke Tiki Lounge and Barbeque in Downtown San Jose.

I have been to the two previous Spotlights so far this year and I can tell you that it is simply a great and fun-filled event with excellent food.

The next Spartan Spotlight at Smoke Tiki will be on Thursday, September 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m..

For more information including directions to the Smoke Tiki bar and grill, please visit the web site at: The official voice of the Spartans click here!
