This marks the second year in a row that SJSU has beat Idaho, and these victories are that much more sweet especially with Idaho's 1995 victory over SJS, and the Vandals jumping up and down on the Spartan logo at center field.
The Spartans all but locked up the win when Christopher Vedder intercepted Idaho quarterback Steve Wichman at the Vandals' 4-yard line in the 4th quarter. Patrick Perry scored the second of his three touchdowns two plays later to give San Jose State a 21 to 13 lead and the Spartans never looked back.
With the victory, SJSU now completes it's quest for a bowl game invite, and now simply awaits a formal invite which is due to arrive no later than December 3rd. The three likely bowl games include potential trips to the New Mexico Chile Bowl, the MPC computers bowl, or the San Diego Poinsettia Bowl.
And now we look ahead to "rivalry week".
The un-ranked Fresno State Bulldogs (4-3, 4-7) will not look past their long hated WAC rival, your San Jose State Spartans (4-3, 7-4) this Saturday at 1PM.
The Bulldogs have been moving the ball decently in it's last three games, and Coach Dick Tomey of SJS, known for formerly coaching the famed Arizona "Desert Swarm" defense, has a defense that he has hand crafted to near perfection.
The rebuilding is not yet 100% complete, however.
Tomey has more recruiting to do in the off season, so we expect the defense to be even better next year!
And this change in direction has been done with somewhat limited resources in only Tomey's second year as head coach, and taking over a program that had been nearly ran into the ground by former coach, Fitgerald Hill, and former AD, Chuck Bell.
Spirit at Fresno State still seems to be "somewhat " still high, but we think it has been slightly off after such a bad season, and so many years of success and fan fare in the past.
The students at SJSU have been into much of the games this year with "thunderous support", but many prime, student Seats have been empty the last two games. We issue a challenge to all Spartan Squad members and the general student population to rally for the game this Saturday and fill every seat available.
This is what college football is all about, and the long term weather forecast is calling for clear skies in the mid 60's. There will be no excuse to not fill Spartan Stadium to the brink of capacity for this one!
See you all there at 1PM, and do not wear any red!
