"They got to us and wore us down. Any time a team can jump on us like that, they can pound on us a little bit and that take us out of the game."
Fitz Hill-Head Football Coach after the Stanford loss.
Pac-10 Slate Completed!
SJSU completed a grueling Pac-10 non-conference schedule with mixed results.
While we saw some very promising things in the first half at Washington and at Stanford, the Spartans can't seem to get on track in the second half.
At Stanford, both teams combined for six interceptions and six fumbles in the first half with Gerald Jones having two interceptions for the Spartans. "We weren't aligning right, They weren't bigger, faster or stronger than us. It was out fault," said Spartan safety Gerald Jones, who tied a single game school record with three pass interceptions.
After facing Washington, Stanford and Big-10 foe Illinois, the Spartans look forward to returning to the friendly confines of Spartan Stadium. The tailgating and half-time show should be great along with the special event planned by the G.I. Forum east of the Stadium.
Last year, SJSU notched its first victory for Coach Hill versus UTEP, 40-28 in El Paso. This year, the Miners like the Spartans, are strugling, having lost to Kentucky and Oklahoma by large margins.
This is the WAC opener for SJS and a must win game for both teams. The Spartans are on the road for three games after the home opener. If the Spartans can cut out the turnovers and play a complete game, they should do well.
This is a young football team which has made some youthful mistakes against top opponents. They need your support. Be there!
