SJSU fills individual needs with 2008 class.

Coach Dick Tomey had focused on filling specific and individual needs for the 2008 recruiting class, and this years class includes freshmen, junior college players, and transfers from upper echelon Universities. Look for SJSU to have improved in the areas of quarterback, recievers, defense, and special teams. Get ready for the "Silicon Swarm" in 2008!

Coach Dick Tomey had focused on filling specific and individual needs for the 2208 recruiting class.

This years class includes new freshmen, junior college players, and transfers from upper echelon Universities.

"And it's unique because we tried to fill some individual needs," Tomey said.

Four defensive backs are among the 13 signees, and there is no quarterback or running back in the group.

"We did not recruit a broad-based group," Tomey said.

Freshman from California make up the majority of this years recruiting class.

Coach Tomey continues to build an "all California" based team, which should also bode well for "cheeks in the seats" at Spartan Stadium.

Nine players are on defensive, five are candidates for the offensive, two special teams players, and two are players whom could play on either side of the offensive or defensive lines.

Four defensive backs are among the 13 signees, and there is no quarterback or running back in this years recruiting group.

"We did not recruit a broad-based group," Tomey said.

This also bodes well for the potential return of Yonus Davis. Either that, or Tomey will take this years team to the "air" with his version of the "Young Guns" of the 1989 SJSU squad.

Long-snapper, Matt Wigley, and punter, Philip Zavala, are junior college transfers from the City College of San Francisco, and suffices for the needs in these crucial positions.

Four-year transfers, Coye Francies, a cornerback from Oregon State, and quarterback, Kyle Reed, from the University of California, look to be "play makers" on the 2008 squad.
