The WAC football season is about to shakeout by this weekend.
With Boise State and Hawaii already Bowl bound, this leaves Nevada, San Jose State, Louisiana Tech, and Fresno State fighting it out for a shot at the Silicon Valley Football Classic on New Years Eve.
Here is how we see the next 2 weeks panning out.
Fresno State has 3 games left on their schedule, and is in a must win situation next week at home against Nevada.
Fresno needs this game more than Nevada does to advance to a Bowl game, but that does not mean that Nevada won't be fired up for the game.
If the Bulldogs lose, the best the Dawgs could finish in the WAC is 5-3. If Nevada wins, the worst they could finish is 5-3 with a victory over Fresno. Both teams need to win to have a realistic shot at a bowl game.
If Fresno loses the game to Nevada this weekend, their season could very well be toast.
Nevada could lose to Fresno State and stumble into a bowl, but they would have to beat Boise at home and hope Fresno loses their last two games on the road (they would also need a SJSU loss at Tulsa and a LA Tech loss at Boise).
A loss for Nevada at Fresno, and then Nevada would have to beat Boise State to make a chance at getting a bowl bid.
Ain't gonna happen.
LA Tech is in a do or die situation at Boise State. If LA Tech loses, their post season efforts are over. If they can beat Boise, then they should coast against UTEP and then have Fresno at home and a chance to even their record at 6-6. If they lose at Boise, they can only play spoilers.
It would be the upset of the century for Tech to beat Boise. We think that you can put a fork in Tech now and be done with them.
San Jose State should win in Tulsa this coming weekend, evening their record at 6-6. Their final game at home against Fresno the following week will be a grudge match for the right to extend their season at home.
The Spartans will beat Tulsa easily… and that is terrific because then the Dawgs will meet the Spartans with the Silicon Valley Classic invitation hanging on the outcome.
Just like old times!
SJSU Vs Fresno State for a chance at a winning season and bragging rights!
