Spartans control their own WAC destiny

NMSU got a big win. On the road, against Nevada. The Spartans are 2-0 against Aggies this year and I expect they will be 3-0 by next Saturday. SJSU's defense continues to roll. SJSU is currently ranked #13 in the nation in total defense, #15 in rushing defense, #26 in passing defense, and in #26 scoring defense. The Aggies better shiver and quake, as SJS has never lost to NMSU in Las Cruces.

Remember a mind is a terrible thing to waste and mine is totally wasted……so read at your own risk….

The Good:

The Spartans continue to control their own destiny in the WAC…..

David Richmond's one handed catch and his TD catch over the defender were ones for the ages……

Duke Ihenacho getting defensive POW in the WAC…..congratulations Spartan….

There are 64 teams in the FBS division of football that have a record of 3-3 or worse….of these 37 have less than two wins…..

There are 64 bowl slots for a 119 teams in the FBS division this year…..55 teams or more with less than 6 wins and the NCAA will have to issue special waivers to fill all the bowl slots…..

NMSU got a big win. On the road, against Nevada…..

The Spartans are 2-0 against Aggies this year and I expect they will be 3-0 by next Saturday….

SJSU's defense continues to roll…currently ranked #13 in the nation in total defense, #15 in rushing defense, #26 in passing defense, #5 in pass efficiency defense and in #26 scoring defense…..

NMSU defense is giving up 32 points per game and almost 400 yards per game……

Fresno St. struggled again, at home, against lowly Idaho…..

Fresno St. wins against Rutgers and Wisconsin are looking very pedestrian at this point….

A bunch of upsets again this past weekend in college football……

All of the WAC games this week are on ESPN 360 for free…….

I saw the movie "The Express" this past Friday…..great movie with some pretty good acting…..and something for the ladies in a sports movie…..Dennis Quaid grinning ear to ear…..

A good to great defense beats a good to great offense……

A road team's best friend is a good to great defense…..

A road team's second best friend is a good running game……

For the betting crowd, Choker ended up 2 out of 2 and now sits at 12 and 14 for the season last week was ok and my mythical pocket book is now down $380. Hawaii and Air Force covered and Arizona and Nevada lost out right. Pretty much a neutral week.

This week Choker likes the following spreads, Hawaii (+26) @ Boise St. take Hawaii, Air Force @ UNLV(+4.5) take Air Force, Stanford (+2.5) @ UCLA take Stanford and Michigan (+23.5) @ Penn St. take Penn St.

The Bad:

I was wrong to put Stanford on my Bowl Death Watch… should have been Arizona, UCLA, Washington, Washington St and possibly Arizona St..

New Mexico St and Hawaii could gobble up two of the three WAC bowl berths if they get eligible….NMSU needs 3 wins in the remaining 7 games and Hawaii needs 4 wins in the remaining 7 games…..

10 undefeated teams left and only two slots for the National Championship and 8 other slots for the BCS….I bet one or two non-BCS teams with perfect records get left out in the cold……at least three teams get knocked out by seasons end due to head to head competition and maybe four… these teams are BYU and Utah in the MWC and Oklahoma St, Texas and Texas Tech in the Big 12 South…..that leaves 7 and maybe 6 undefeated teams by seasons end….can the non-BCS teams get two in the BCS Bowls? Who knows but it will be interesting…..

Clemson firing Tommy Bowden this week in the middle of the season……never ever fire a coach mid season unless he has done something really stupid or felonious….

NMSU is averaging 6.5 yards per play on offense……

NMSU offense is scoring over 31 points per game……

The Ugly:

40 degrees at game time in Nevada this past weekend and the wind was howling……Nevada losing to NMSU at Home ……I bet that was a fun 3 hours plus for the Wolf Pack fans…..

The Fresno St defense for letting Idaho score 32 points at Fresno…..the dog pound has become a puppy mill…….

If NMSU goes 6-6 and gets the New Mexico Bowl bid and other WAC teams with better overall records get left wanting for a bowl bid…..

Worse is if Boise St. goes undefeated and fails to get a BCS bid, Hawaii gets eligible for the Hawaii bowl at 7-5, New Mexico State at 6-6 gets the New Mexico Bowl and the WAC has Fresno St. and SJSU with 8-4 or 9-3 records have to stay home… is possible…..Commissioner Karl better start getting his sales pitch going… could happen and it would be a disaster if SJSU and Fresno are sitting at home during the holidays…..

Preseason rankings…..what a load of crap….

Hope to see all of you in two weeks at Spartaville for the Donkeys from Spud U…..
