Another year and another San Jose State football recruiting class, but is this Dick Tomey's best yet? Well, Coach Tomey answered that question and many others on Wednesday afternoon as he introduced the 2009 class at the Hukilau restaurant in San Jose's JapanTown. 17 players have signed National Letters of Intent to play football for the Spartans during the 2009 season!

Here we are Spartan fans with another crop of new players for yet another season of SJSU football!

At the signing party last Wednesday night, Tomey said that his staff landed all but one of the 5 highly targeted recruits they went after. Carta-Samuels was the one player SJSU did not land, but Tomey did secure the services of Travis Johnson, Brandon Driver, Harrison Waid, and Chris Hill.

Here are your 2009 Spartans in no particular order!

WR Marquis Avery, Fullerton College, 6-4, 205- Look out James Jones! Here comes your successor!

DL Pierce Burton, Rio Americano-Sacramento, 6-6, 250- Lean and mean for a lineman!

CB Brandon Driver, Santa Rosa JC, 6-0, 185-Comes to us with a torn ligament, but should be ready for mid 2009 season action.

C Reuben Hasani, Venice-Los Angeles, 6-3, 280- A key cog to the offense this year.

CB Chris Hill, Carson (Ca.) HS, 5-9, 175- He is ready to come in and compete right away for a starting position.

DE/FB Travis Johnson, King's Academy-San Jose, 6-3, 235-Untapped potential waiting to explode.

OL Ryan Jones, Riordan, 6-3, 275- 2009 redshirt in all likliness.

DT Anthony Larceval, Helix-La Mesa, 6-1, 265-Welcome to the flex defense!

RB Lamon Muldrow, Sierra College, 5-9, 210- Tomey said that they are looking for "MoJo" to be a grinding player rather than the type of running back that rips 40 yard per carry.

WR/S James Orth, Modesto Central Catholic, 6-2, 190-Typical wide reciever, but Tomey wants him as a defensive safety.

OL Amar Pal, Santa Monica, 6-4, 275- The kind of guy we need on the O-Line!

DE Abasi Salimu, Crenshaw-Los Angeles, 6-5, 245- Greyshirted this past fall and gained 50 pounds from 200 to 250.

DB Jason Simpson, Woodside, 6-0, 200- Local ties!

QB Dasmen Stewart, Oxnard, 6-3, 205- He just turned 17! Future Mike Perez?

K Harrison Waid, Fremont-Sunnyvale, 6-1, 175- Local ties!

DB Ronnie Yell, Lincoln-San Diego, 5-9, 165- Quick defensive player.

On a side note, Kevin "KJ" Jurovich will be back this season, as will several other Spartans that missed most or all of the 2008 season (Ryno Gonzalas, Cameron Island, Jalal Beauchmann, Fred Koloto, Justin Willis, and Patrick Perry).
