Inside Sparta had received information that 6-foot-4 combo guard Chris Jones of Newark (Calif) Memorial High School would bring his signed Letter of Intent to the San Jose State coaching staff during his official visit on Saturday.
Those plans have changed as the SJSU Athletic Dept. released an announcement that Jones has, in fact, sent in his LOI and is now officially a Spartan!

San Jose State University Men's Basketball Adds All-State Freshman Swingman
Chris Jones, a 2007 CalHi Sports all-state selection boys basketball selection while playing for Newark (Calif.) Memorial High School, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent with San Jose State University and plans to enroll for the 2009 Fall semester. George Nessman, the head coach for the Spartans' men's basketball program made the announcement.
Jones is a 6-foot-4, 205-pound guard/forward prospect. During his junior and senior seasons, he was a key figure in Newark Memorial High winning 20 or more games each season. He was a two-time honorable mention all-metro selection by the San Francisco Chronicle.
"Chris is a really good player. He's versatile, athletic, and a tough competitor who has a multi-faceted game," says the San Jose State coach. "He's a great fit for our program. He knows a lot of the players on our team which provides a great comfort level for us."
Jones' signing is the fourth for the Spartans heading into the 2009-10 season. During the 2008 November signing period, 6-foot-8 Joe Henson from Pasadena (Calif.) High School, 6-foot-3 guard Aalim Moor from Saint Mary's High in Albany, Calif., and 6-foot-5 guard/forward Anthony Dixon from Hyde Park Academy High in Chicago, Ill., signed a National Letter-of-Intent.
In addition, the Southland and Western Athletic Conferences granted 6-foot-9 forward/center C.J. Webster, who has averaged in double-figure scoring in each of his two San Jose State seasons, another season of athletics eligibility. He will enter the 2009-10 season as a junior.
