Sean Scarbrough named to ACHA All-West Team

The all-time leading scorer for the San Jose State ice hockey club team, senior wing Sean Scarbrough, has been named to the 2009 American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 2 All-West Team.

His 308 career point total is tops for the San Jose State ice hockey club. In the 2008-2009 season he notched 65 total points with 37 goals and 28 assists. Senior wing Sean Scarbrough closes out his SJSU journey by being named to the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 2 All-West third-team. Ever the humble star, Scarbrough is quick to shine the light on others. "I really don't have much thought on it," he recently told Inside Sparta. "(SJSU senior center) Andy Dickerson had a great year and I'm sure there are plenty of guys from the Colorado schools who are mad they didn't receive any recognition." Dickerson was the leading scorer for the Spartans in 2008-2009 with 74 points.

In a career that has sent him to three National Championship tournaments, saw the club reach a No. 1 ranking for the first time in its 18-year history, his all-time point leader crown, and a selection on the No. 2 ACHA All-West Team after the 2005-2006 season - his second year in a Spartans sweater - Scarbrough didn't have much to say about the recent award. "I'm just happy to have been acknowledged," he said.

SJSU hockey head coach Ron Glasow was more glowing in his praise of Scarbrough. "Sean has always been the go-to guy," he said. "He's a pure goal scorer and he can do things individually that not many hockey players can do, either in a five-on-five situation or on the power-play, or when we're short-handed."

Glasow also said that while he has had players as fast as Scarbrough at SJSU, he hasn't had anyone who was able to couple that speed with the puck handling abilities of his departing senior. "He really could do it all," Glasow said.

The search for Scarbrough's replacement will begin after Sept. 1, when SJSU will hold tryouts for the 2009-2010 team. Further details will be announced in the summer.
