SJSU Sweeps Doubleheader at NMSU

The San Jose State Spartans continued with their hitting ways in the second and third games of a four game weekend series in Las Cruces, NM, defeating the New Mexico State Aggies by a score of 20-7 in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader and 15-11 in the nightcap.

The San Jose State Spartans continued with their hitting ways to cruise to a 20-7 victory over the New Mexico State Aggies in the second game of a four game weekend series in Las Cruces, NM. The Spartans lead the Aggies in the series, two wins to none, having won Game One last night by a score of 24-5.

Jason Martin, Corey Valine, and Karson Klauer all went deep today. For Valine, it was his second home run of the series. Martin, who was three for four at the plate, led all Spartans with five rbi's.

On the mound in the first game for San Jose State were David Berner (six innings, 14 hits, seven earned-runs, 10 strike outs), who took the win, and Anthony Vega, who was steller in relief (three innings, one hit, no runs, seven strike outs).

In the nightcap game, shortstop Kyle Bellows blasted two home runs, and seven RBIs to help lead the Spartans to a 15-11 victory.

The Spartans are now 35-16 overall, and 11-6 in WAC games, and have moved into 1st place in the WAC, ahead of Louisiana Tech. New Mexico State dropped to a record of 38-13 overall, and 9-10 in the WAC.

The conference leading Spartans will go for the series sweep in the finale tomorrow, starting at 11:30 AM MST.
