Valley Christian High School in San Jose has sent many players to San Jose State. Some of the current players include senior wide receiver Kevin Jurovich, junior defensive back Dominique Hunsucker, junior defensive lineman Justin Willis, and sophomore defensive back Tanner Burns. Former Warrior defensive end Jeff Schweiger transferred to SJSU from USC in 2007, and is now with the Denver Broncos of the NFL.
Inside Sparta spoke with Valley Christian head coach Mike Machado on Wednesday and he said the SJSU staff is talking to one of his seniors about joining the Spartans this fall. "Coach (Keith) Burns has been in contact with 5-foot-11, 205-pound strong safety Robert Fiscalini about greyshirting this fall and getting a scholarship in January," Machado said.
A greyshirt is a player who is invited to join the team as a walk-on, with the promise of a scholarship in the following class. As such, if Fiscalini does join the Spartans and is awarded a scholarship in January, it would count against the total for the class of 2011.
According to a recent San Jose Mercury News article, Fiscalini signed with Arizona Western Junior College in Yuma, Arizona to play safety. However, if he were to end up at San Jose State he would not be bound by the transfer rules - he would not be required to sit out a year.
In his senior season Fiscalini had 126 tackles and 12 sacks. He also runs the 100-meters in 11.01.
