For the first time since the 2000 season the San Jose State baseball team is the Western Athletic Conference regular season champions. Behind a combined pitching performance by junior Max Peterson and Senior Anthony Vega, the Spartans pulled a rarity this season - they jumped out to a lead and held it. The 4-2 win assures SJSU of the No. 1 seed in the upcoming WAC Tournament starting Thursday in Hawaii.
SJSU is now 37-18 on the season, and 13-7 in the WAC. There are two games remaining in the regular season - the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, and Sunday's final. Before the finale on Sunday the 13 graduating Spartans will be honored.
