Cornerback Bene Benwikere of Serra High School in Gardena, Calif., received a visit last week from San Jose State coach Charles Nash. The Spartans' running back coach stopped by to give Benwikere his latest offer.
"Coach Nash came by my school last week to watch some of my tape," Benwikere said. "He liked my film and said he liked my ability to look opponents in the eye. Then he came back to my school and told my coach that they wanted to offer me."
The SJSU offer brings his total to four, with one from a Big 12 school.
"I have offers from UNLV, Iowa State, San Diego State, and San Jose State," he said. "UNLV was the first and I don't have a favorite, I'm open."
Benwikere said he has a neighbor who is well-known to San Jose State fans.
"Chris Owens stays down the street from me," he said. "He's told me a lot of good things about San Jose State."
The 5-foot-11, 180-pound cornerback recently told Scout.com that his top seven include Oregon State, UCLA, Washington, Boise State, Oklahoma, which is his dad's alma mater, Nevada and UNLV.
"I'm going to take all of my visits before I decide," he said. "I'm in no hurry."
Other Pac-10 schools are showing interest, Benwikere said. Washington has been by his school, and he recently visited UCLA.
