SF Scout Combine Quick-Hitters

Under an absolutely gorgeous San Francisco sky, about 100 high school football prospects tested, drilled, and competed in the final stop for the 2009 Scout Combine. Kezar Stadium was the venue. Also, coaches from a Northern California high school and a Central Valley Junior College tell of some of their players receiving interest from the SJSU staff.

The second and final stop on the West Coast for the 2009 Scout Combines was held on Saturday at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco. It was also the last event of the national combine tour and the day couldn't have been more perfect.

There were several other football events being held over the weekend so attendance was not as robust as hoped. Nonetheless a highly talented group of about 100 prospects came out to test their mettle against the clock, and each other.

There were several San Jose State prospects in attendance, including quarterback Quinton McCown of Hilmar (Calif) High School. We first met McCown at a San Jose State spring practice.

Here is a list of others. Inside Sparta will have more on many of these players in the coming weeks.

Inside Sparta also spoke with several coaches who were in attendance and were able to gather some other possible names of prospects the SJSU coaches are pursuing. Sacramento High School defensive backs coach Shaunard Harts, who played cornerback for Boise State and spend several years in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks, said that the Spartan coaches were very interested in running back Clinton Johnson.

San Jose State defensive line coach Kenji Green was at College of the Sequoias last week, according to Giant defensive backs coach Tony Perry. Perry said that Green was checking out cornerback C.J. Lestor, defensive tackle Lavon McCoy, offensive linemen Gayden Roszell and Elijah Rule.

Lastly, many of today's participants were also at the May 31 SJSU Junior Day. For that report please visit the Inside Sparta Premium Message Board
