LB Justin Woodlief to Transfer to SE Missouri

Junior walk-on linebacker Justin Woodlief is transferring to Football Championship Subdivision Southeast Missouri State, Inside Sparta has learned. Woodlief is the second walk-on to seek playing time elsewhere, joining center Jackson Dallas who earlier announced he was heading the Portland State.

The financial aspects of living in the Bay Area are legendary for their difficulty. With one of the highest costs-of-living in the country many in the world of business have a hard time making ends meet. A young man attempting to put himself through college while chasing the dream of playing football can often find the task overwhelming. Such is the case with San Jose State junior walk-on linebacker Justin Woodlief, who told Inside Sparta on Wednesday that he will be transferring to Southeast Missouri State University.

"I love San Jose State," he said. "If it wasn't for my financial situation I would never think of leaving. I have a pretty good chance of getting a full ride at Southeast Missouri State."

The 6-foot-3, 240-pound junior transfer from Cabrillo College in in Aptos was on the spring roster and participated in both full-pad scrimmages held during the spring practice session.

Woodlief will be joining former Cabrillo College teammates Frank Knights and Taylor West on the Redhawks roster. Southeast plays in the Ohio Valley Conference and finished the 2008 season 4-8 overall, and 2-6 in the conference. Since Southeast Missouri is in a lower division than SJSU Woodlief will not be required to sit out a season due to the transfer.

Woodlief is the second SJSU walk-on to transfer in as many weeks. Center Jackson Dallas announced on June 5 that he will moving on to Portland State.
