SJSU Still in Contact with QB McCown

San Jose State has offered on junior college quarterback and is most likely looking to add a high school signal caller as well. The Spartan staff is keeping in close contact with Hilmar (Calif) QB Quinton McCown. He gave Inside Sparta a brief update.

It's no secret that the quarterback position is one of major interest for San Jose State recruiting fans. Inside Sparta has reported on one offer for junior college QB Darius Bell of the City College of San Francisco. It is also expected that the Spartan staff will be taking at least one high school QB in this class. One player to which they are keeping in close contact is Quinton McCown of Hilmar (Calif) High School.

"I got a nice letter the other day from Coach (Terry) Malley," McCown said. "He told me that they were going to watch me through the year and decide afterward on whether to offer or not."

The 6-foot-3, 184-pound McCown was one of the top performers at the San Francisco Scout.com Combine held in June, but the coaches told him they want to see him in game-action.

"(SJSU) told me they were looking for a running quarterback," McCown said. "I'll be sending them game film from my upcoming season. If they do offer I'd certainly consider committing."
