SJSU RB/LB Target Out for Season

Running back/linebacker Derek Muaava of Independence High School in San Jose reportedly will be sidelined for the entire season with an MCL and ACL tears. The report added that he has offers from Sept. 12 opponents San Jose State and Utah.

Derek Muaava is a 6-foot-1, 215-pound running back/linebacker from Independence High School who reportedly has an offer from San Jose State, and will possibly miss his entire season due to a tear of the MCL and ACL tendons during a recent football camp, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Muaava reportedly also has an offer from Sept. 12 SJSU foe Utah.

"He still hasn't made a final decision, but I'm pretty sure he is going to go ahead and have the surgery," Muaava's father Taliga said.

It is unclear whether either school will honor their offers.

During his junior season Muaava racked up 1,127 yards while scoring nine touchdowns and was named the most valuable junior in the BVAL Santa Teresa division. He also averaged 10.1 tackles per game with eight sacks.
