In what looks to be one of the most anticipated games of the 2009 season, San Jose State will face No. 17 Utah on Saturday. A packed house is expected and will include one high school prospect from the Central Valley - running back Andrew Mendoza of Merced (Calif) high school will be making the trek to Spartan Stadium.
"Coach Joe Salave'a invited me to attend the San Jose St vs Utah game this Saturday night," Mendoza told Inside Sparta. "My parents and I are going and I can't wait!"
While no offer has yet been extended to Mendoza, the Spartans have been keeping an eye on him since spring. Inside Sparta first spoke with Mendoza at the Scout.com San Francisco Combine, where he posted 4.75 in the 40-yard-dash along with a 4.73 in the shuttle.
The 5-foot-11, 183-pound Mendoza is also looking at the University of San Diego, Oregon State, UCLA, and Northern Arizona.
Merced started off the season on Sept. 4 with a 41-0 loss to Bullard. The Bears have a bye this week and will host Napa on Sept. 18.
