On Saturday, January 9th, high school football players from San Bernardino and Riverside Counties will face-off against one another in the 25th Annual Inland Empire All-Star Classic at Corona (Calif.) High School. The following weekend, two of those players, one from each team, will come together in San Jose, as both will be making recruiting visits to San Jose State.
"Defensive back Derron Smith will be visiting SJSU the weekend of Jan. 15th," Mike Smith, Derron's father, told Inside Sparta by email. "He scheduled the visit with defensive Line coach Kinji Green. Smith will be visiting with running back/safety Steven Bethley of Don Lugo High School."
The elder Smith said his son has already tripped to Nebraska and Nevada, and will visit Fresno State on Jan. 22nd. Mike Smith added that each of those schools has offered him, as has San Jose State, New Mexico State, and San Diego State.
As a running back for Lugo High this past season, Bethley ran for 1,143 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also picked-off six passes and returned three punts for touchdowns. According to Scout.com, Bethley has offers from not only San Jose State, but also Colorado State and San Diego State.
