Spartans Pick Up Another Juco Player

Regardless of whether we know the entire composition of the new San Jose State coaching staff, one thing is for certain - they are hitting the recruiting trail hard. SJSU picked up their second JUCO commit this week, a linebacker from a local school.

Building on the excitement of landing defensive lineman Ja'Rodd Watson of Grossmont Junior College, the San Jose State staff picked up another JUCO prospect with the signing of Rashad Gayden, a linebacker from the College of the Sequoias, according to's Mario Gomez.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Gayden is the twin brother of Auburn-bound offensive tackle Roszell Gayden.

Originally from Minnesota, Rashad and his brother came west in 2008 to play for COS.

"He had a lot of mid-major schools looking at him," COS coach Tony Perry said. "He's a big, physical player and he'll do well.

As with Watson, San Jose State only recently jumped into the mix for Gayden, and convinced the talented player to sign.

"The new staff (at SJSU) got on him and he decided to sign," Perry said. "He was considering going with his brother to Auburn but wants to do his own thing."

Inside Sparta will have more from Rashad Gayden later this week.
