Spartans Looking Out of State for This Big OL

San Jose State doesn't often look outside of California for players. The rich talent of the state usually is sufficient to fill their roster. However, this talented lineman had the attention of new offensive coordinator Hugh Freeze. The Midwest offensive lineman was in San Jose for an official visit, and will be hosting a pair of SJSU coaches.

With the State of California a hotbed of football talent it is rarely the occasion when San Jose State needs to look beyond its borders to find talent, and when it does it almost never goes beyond the Rockies. However, new offensive coordinator Hugh Freeze had been recruiting Jessy McMullin for some time, and didn't want to stop simply because of a change in jobs. As such, the talented offensive lineman from Western Iowa Community College took an official visit to the San Jose State campus the weekend of Jan. 15, and holds an offer from SJSU.

"Yep, I have an offer and took the visit," McMullin told Inside Sparta. "Robbie Reed was my host and it was pretty good, I liked it there."

McMullin reports that along with the SJSU, he holds offers from Missouri State, Florida International, Louisiana Tech, Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois, and Western Kentucky. He took an official visit to Missouri State this weekend, but has yet to commit to a school.

"I'm going to think it over some," McMullin said. "I think it would be good for me and everyone to get it over with, but I don't have a favorite yet."

The 6-foot-6, 289-pound McMullin said he can play anywhere on the line and has no preference, though he said the SJSU staff is recruiting him for the blind-side tackle position.

It will be a busy Monday for McMullins and he host some visitors of his own.

"Florida International is coming to visit early Monday morning," he said. "Then Coach (Mike) MacIntyre and Coach (Gary) Bernardi from San Jose State are coming in that afternoon." McMullin said he'll have three years to play three and will enroll in his next college in the fall.
