Deon Goggins Keeping Things Close to the Vest

The recruiting year is coming to a close for the class of 2010 and Deon Goggins of Cerritos College in Norwalk, Calif., isn't letting on which school will get his signature. San Jose State has offered the three-star defender, but will they be in consideration?

Schools are recruiting Deon Goggins for several spots along the defensive line, and he has offers from schools across the country. Baylor, Washington State, and Syracuse are the three schools that have hosted Goggins for official visits, and two schools have recently turned up the heat.

"USC and Boston College have just entered the race but neither one has offered," Goggins told Inside Sparta. "I'm not going to jump if one or both of them do offer, but I'll be sure to take all of the schools into consideration."

The 6-foot-2, 285-pound Goggins also holds offers from Utah State and San Jose State though neither seems to be pushing as hard for his signature come Feb. 3.

"Baylor and Syracuse are recruiting me the hardest," he said. "I hear from the other schools too, but as far as who is recruiting me the most, it's those two."

The talented defensive star recently said that he'll have three years to play two.

Goggins said he spoke with new SJSU head coach Mike MacIntyre a while ago, but his main contact with the Spartan staff has been Kinji Green. While he doesn't reveal a favorite, he does have a criteria.

"It's about the relationships that I'll have with the coaches," he said. "I'm open to all the schools that are recruiting me but in the end it will be where I feel most comfortable."

He added that he will inform the schools of his decision the day before Signing Day. As of Wednesday evening he had yet to schedule an official visit for the final weekend before the big day on Feb. 3.
