Quick Hitters from Signing Day Presser

The 2010 recruiting class for San Jose State football is in the books. Head coach Mike MacIntyre spoke Weds with media about the class, the struggles and the high points, and what's in store for the future.

With a little over a calendar month to put together a staff and get a full class of recruits, new San Jose State head coach Mike MacIntyre exceeded expectations and brought in a very decent class. Today he sat down with the media to discuss the new Spartans.

  • Twenty-seven total in this class - 21 freshman and six JUCO
  • Coach MacIntyre was impressed that the athletic director, and the school president and his wife, were present and available for EVERY recruiting weekend visit. Coach Mac mentioned that many parents were impressed with this
  • Brought many players in for official visits prior to extending an offer. Coach Mac said he wanted to make sure the players were interested in being at SJSU
  • Every position needed help
  • Feels this class is very well rounded. He's happy with the JUCO kids brought and feels they can help right away, especially with the ability to take part in spring practice
  • Said only two quarterbacks on scholarship from the previous team - a senior (LaSecla) and a red-shirt freshman (Stewart)
  • Wanted a power running back and a couple of "scatback-type" players, and felt they succeeded in that effort
  • There will most likely be players that move positions
  • Definitely wants players that can play both sides of the ball
  • Said only a
  • The school was able to sign 27 in the class due to unused scholarships held over from the previous year
  • While all players will be bidding for playing time, optimally he would like to redshirt all freshman
  • JUCO players will hopefully be ready to play right away
  • Staff worked exceptionally hard and long hours to bring this class together
  • Won't know until spring what the main targets will be for the class of 2011
  • The offer process is by committee. While the head coach has final say on an offer, an assistant can have the authority, through the head coach, to offer a player
  • Always wants to have four quarterbacks on scholarship
  • Made the point that the offense won't be spread. Used the term multiple
  • Likes the 6-foot-2 to 6-foot-4, 240-pound kids out of high school that can be developed into a multitude of positions
