The 2006-2007 Front Court

The front court is the most glaring weakness the Pirates will have this year.

The front court is the most glaring weakness the Pirates will have this year. Points in the paint will not come easy for the Pirates. 6-10 senior Grant Billmeier will anchor the middle for the Pirates. The senior will have to stay out of foul trouble. The main things Grant will need to do is rebound and play defense. Any offensive contributions Grant provides will be a huge bonus. I believe Grant will be an excellent leader for this young squad.

6-9 John Garcia hopefully returns this season after red-shirting last season. Garcia is currently rehabbing a knee injury. If Garcia can come back in time for the big east part of the schedule, Seton Hall will be in a lot better shape. Garcia in high school was known as a very good low post scorer. If he can bring that onto the court this season it might open the perimeter up a bit. Too much can't be expected out of Garcia due to injuries the past 2 seasons. Anything Garcia can do to contribute would be a huge bonus.

6-7 senior Stan Gaines will man the 4 slot for the Pirates. The Pirates will need Gaines to shoot the ball better from the perimeter this year and bang down in the blocks. Gaines has a lot of toughness which will translate into him having a much better season than he did last year. It's a necessity that Gaines stays out of foul trouble.

Could Mani Messy be the X-factor? It may be a lot to hope for, but if Mani can contribute at the 4 Seton Hall will have a little breathing room. Mani can shoot it from deep but he needs to step it up on the defensive end, if he can play good defense and rebound this team may be able to surprise some people. I believe Seton Hall will go with 4 guards at times this year. Do not be surprised to see Brian Laing play the 4. If the staff can get to front court to overachieve, you bet Seton Hall will be the surprise team in the Big East.
