Husband Hunting Over

With Signing Day less than two weeks away, many Jag fans were wondering if there would be any wide-bodies to go with all the skill athletes that had been assembled. Well the wait is over as 6'2" 305lb offensive lineman DaMon Husband of nearby Williamson High School has given his pledge to South Alabama.

"Of course, it's my hometown," said Husband. "That made a big difference. I'll be able to play sports in front of my family with a great, rising program."

The big news (other than Husband) around the USA program this week as been the selection of Jaguar wide receiver Courtney Smith to the Senior Bowl, the premiere college all-star game held in Mobile every year. Husband said that seeing Smith get that coveted roster spot had a bearing on his decision.

"Seeing Courtney make it to the Senior Bowl was really amazing. It let's people see how quickly it's become a competitive Division One football team."

Husband's thick build and good feet are reminiscent of 2010 freshman sensation Melvin Meggs, who starred on the offensive line in his first campaign out of high school. The early plan is to groom him as a center to eventually replace Trey Clark, but a good start to his college career may see him on the field earlier in a guard spot. Husband, who has already met NCAA eligibility requirements, and DB commitment EJ May of McGill-Toolen High School give this stellar class a strong local flavor, something that should appeal to Mobilians as the Jags take the field for Season Three in 2011.
