Lady Jag Hoops Add Two

With the loss of four key seniors off of a 17-13 team, Coach Rick Pietri of the USA women's basketball team has spent this spring restocking his roster in hopes of climbing the ladder in a very tough Sun Belt Conference. With the addition of two new junior college standouts, Kierra Johnson of Oak Ridge, Tennessee and Jennifer Johnson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, the work of this signing period is over.

Kierra Johnson comes to USA from Cleveland State Community College of where the 5'9" guard/forward helped the team to a 21-6 record while earning honorable mention All-America honors. She averaged a robust 15.3 points and 10.7 rebounds along with 3.6 assists and 3.2 steals. Although undersized, she has the ability to play both inside and outside. She hit 57% of her two point shots and 28% of her threes. A year ago she was picked her league's freshman of the year as she averaged 13.7 points and 11 rebounds a game.

Jennifer Johnson will have three years of eligibility remaining after playing one year at Independence Community College and contributing significantly to a 30-3 season. She put up 14.3 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game for the Lady Pirates. Coach Pietri projects her to be an offensive and defensive asset at the four position next year for the Jags. She certainly has the bloodlines as both her father and sister played college basketball.

With a total of six new players joining the program next season, Coach Pietri has indeed refilled the cupboard and next season we will see if the Lady Jags are properly supplied to make another step forward.
