Jags Add DL Commitment

Jeffrey Gay was part of history last fall when his Atlantic Coast High School Stingrays became the only school first-year football program in modern Florida history to achieve a winning record with a 6-4 mark. Gay will continue to make history as he has become the first Stingray who will play FBS football.

The 6'2" 260lb Gay was a force inside for the ACHS defense, recording 10 sacks and 18 TFL. It is his ability to be a disruptive presence that convinced South Alabama to extend a scholarship offer to him. After visiting the university in Mobile, Gay decided to give the Jags his commitment to be part of their program that will be competing in the FBS in 2013.

"Honestly, I liked the campus and I liked the area. There were multiple things (that attracted him to USA)," said Gay. "The facilities are nice. I like that it's a fairly new football program and I really like Coach Jones. I just liked everything about it."

Gay, who's father starred at FAMU, has also been receiving attention from Richmond and MTSU. for right now, though, his goals are to help one emerging program do well before leaving high school and doing the same thing on the college level at South Alabama.
