Big Man Gathering Interest

The Lamar County(GA) Trojans have a not-so-secret weapon for 2011: Nose tackle Fredrick Walker. The big man will not only be an integral part of their team, but is also a big reason that recruiters have been dropping in on the Class AA school.

At 6'2" 320lbs, Fredrick Walker was bound to attract attention anyway, but racking up 65 tackles, 13 sacks and eight other tackles for loss has really gotten him on the recruiting radar. His quickness off the snap and relentless motor has earned him scholarship offers from South Alabama, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, South Florida, Central Florida and Appalachian State.

"I wouldn't say I have a favorite. I like all of them," said Walker. "Right now, my top two are South Alabama and Georgia Southern."

When it comes to what makes this pair standout over the others, Walker had this to say:

"They both play hard-hitting football. I like the program that South Alabama has and I see that academically they graduate their players, no matter what. That's true with both of them."

Walker had been hoping to make his decision and commit before his senior season begins, but he had to cancel a scheduled visit to Georgia Southern and now it looks like it may be early September before he can make it over to Statesboro. While his visit to Mobile and South Alabama was obviously a positive experience, Georgia Southern has the advantage of also recruiting his best friend, quarterback Maurice Bloodser, who has sung the praises of the Eagles.
