Gamecock Insider has learned that South Carolina is making a move on heralded defensive end prospect J.J. Grant, a former teammate of Gamecock signee Marcus Lawrence and others.
Grant, 6-4 250 4.6 DE and rated four stars by The Insiders, originally was thought to have signed with Mississippi State out of Butler Community College this past February. But Gamecock Insider has learned that Grant never signed the paperwork, and when pushed to do so recently he refused.
Grant has indicated that he wishes to stay in the SEC and he has now narrowed his choices to South Carolina and Auburn.
Our sources tell us that Grant will be visiting South Carolina within days and has been offered a full ride. We will bring you more on this story as news develops.
Update: 7 April 2003 - J.J. Grant will in all likelihood not be elgible to enroll and play this season. According to our sources we are still interested in him, "he is a player," but recent information leads us to believe that upon further investigation Grant still has some work to do in school that will prevent him from signing and enrolling anytime soon.
