South Carolina is now 37-9 and 18-5 in the SEC while Ole Miss improves to 26-21 and 10-13 in the league. The rubber game of the series is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET and can be heard live on the Gamecock Radio Network.
Ole Miss starting pitcher David Goforth worked six innings and allowed two runs on five hits with four strikeouts and a walk. He is now 4-6 for the season.
South Carolina starter Colby Holmes suffered the loss and is now 4-2 on the year. Holmes allowed three runs on four hits in 1.1 innings. He had two strikeouts and a walk.
The 10 runs scored by Ole Miss were the most the Gamecocks have allowed in an SEC game and ties for the most in a game allowed this season.
The Rebels broke out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run homer by Yarbrough. Tanner Mathis led off the frame with a single and Yarbrough connected on a 1-0 pitch for a one-out homer to right-center. It marked Yarbrough's sixth home run of the season. Ole Miss extended it to 3-0 in the second inning on a solo home run by Miles Hamblin, his fifth homer of the year. They would add to it with a single run in the third inning as Yarbrough walked, stole second and scored on Matt Tracy's two-out RBI single to make it 4-0.
South Carolina cut the lead in half in the fourth inning with a pair of runs. Christian Walker drew a walk and Brady Thomas singled to get things started. After a passed ball advanced the runners, Adrian Morales lifted a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Walker for Carolina's first run of the game. Evan Marzilli would drive in Thomas with a two-out triple down the right field line that cut Ole Miss' lead to 4-2.
It remained that way until the sixth inning when Ole Miss plated across three runs. With one out and the bases loaded, Tanner Mathis knocked a slow roller to shortstop Peter Mooney. On the play, Mooney threw for a force at second base but the throw was muffed by second baseman Scott Wingo. The bags remained full with Ole Miss in front 5-2.
With the bases still loaded and two outs, Yarbrough came through in the clutch for the Rebels as he singled up the middle to score two more and increase Ole Miss' advantage to 7-2.
The Rebels broke it open with three more in the seventh inning. Hamblin drove in a run with a RBI double and Anderson drove in the other two runs with a RBI single.
Ole Miss had 14 hits while the Gamecocks ended with just five on the afternoon. Hamblin was 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Anderson went 3-for-4 as well. Yarbrough, Tracy and Will Allen had two hits apiece also. Marzilli finished 2-for-3 with a RBI to lead Carolina at the plate.
