Stetson eliminates N.C. State

Stetson head coach Pete Dunn said Saturday night that his club would see the Gamecocks again Sunday night. Dunn proved prophetic as his team jumped out to a 3-0 lead and ultimately held on to win 5-3.

Stetson reliever Tucker Donahue pitched 3.2 shutout innings in relief and picked up the win. He surrendered just four hits.

N.C. State starter Rob Chamra surrendered three earned runs in three innings in the loss.

Holding on to a 3-2 lead, Stetson stretched the lead with a run each in the seventh and eighth inning.

N.C. State made one last push in the bottom of the ninth. After pushing across one run, the Wolfpack had brought the potential winning run to the plate in Danny Canela. Canela's bid at a walk-off came up just short as it was caught on the warning track in center field.

With the win, Stetson advances to face South Carolina tonight at 7 p.m. The Gamecocks are just one win away from advancing to the super regionals while Stetson would have to win tonight and tomorrow to advance.

South Carolina sends freshman Forrest Koumas to the mound while Stetson will counter with freshman left-hander Austin Perez.
