Super Regional Set

South Carolina will be hosting the Columbia Super Regional against the UConn Huskies. Carolina beat Stetson, 8-2, Monday afternoon in the completion of a suspended game from Sunday night. UConn advanced Monday evening with a 14-1 thumping of Clemson.

It was all but set.

South Carolina was going to host their bitter arch-rival Clemson in the 2011 Super Regional in what was going to be an intense match-up to determine one of the eight teams heading to Omaha. Fans were already chomping at the bit to get the trash talk going.

It was too good to be true.

One day after losing a late lead, Clemson was dismantled by UConn Monday night. There will be no South Carolina/Clemson match-up. The Huskies made sure of that.

UConn will be heading back down to the Palmetto state this weekend, though their destination will be a little farther south.

Game one is set for 6:00 Saturday night. Game two set for 7:00 Sunday night. Game three - if necessary - will be at either 1:00, 4:00, or 7:00 Monday depending on what happens in the other Super Regional series.

Will the games be on television?

Yes they will.

Game one will air nationally on ESPN2, game two will air on ESPNU, and game three will air on either ESPN2 or ESPNU.

South Carolina will put up its 17-game home winning streak in NCAA games on the line when the Huskies roll into town. The Gamecocks have not lost an NCAA Tournament game at home since losing game two to Miami in the 2002 Super Regional. South Carolina would pull off a near miraculous comeback in game three to advance to the College World Series, where they would eventually fall to Texas in the National Championship game.
