Key Three: Navy

In this new feature, each week Gamecock Anthem will break down three players to watch from the opposing team. This week, check out three Navy athletes that the Gamecocks need to hold in check Saturday night in their home opener.

Three Key Navy Players to Watch
QB Kriss Proctor – 6-1, 200 - SR-1L - Big Bear City, Calif.
Quick Hitter: The speedy Proctor replaces quarterback Ricky Dobbs as the Midshipmen's trigger-man in their triple-option attack and has performed well in his first two games. Proctor leads the team with 199 yards on 38 carries and has completed 7 of 14 passes. Proctor may be the fastest Navy quarterback in recent memory and knows the offense well. Proctor has led the Navy offense to 40 points in each of its first two games this season and the Midshipmen to a 2-0 start to the season.

Gamecocks must... play their assignments. It's become a cliche when teams play option-oriented opponents, but it probably wouldn't be a cliche if it wasn't true. The South Carolina defense must keep Proctor and his offense from taking control of the entire game.
FB Alexander Teich - 6-0, 217 - SR-2L - Conroe, Texas
Quick Hitter: Teich is Navy's second-leading rusher with 167 yards on 29 carries. Teich is the first "option" in the triple option as the fullback and resident bulldozer up the middle. Despite being tasked with getting the tough inside yards, Teich averages 5.8 yards a carry and even has a 38-yarder on the season. Teich is smaller but more athletic than the typical Navy fullback and is a threat to receive tosses to the outside too. Teich was named co-captain by his teammates, the highest honor a Navy student-athlete can receive.

Gamecocks must... wrap up. While playing Navy won't help the Gamecocks' pass woes, it may be good for them to get back to basics. Teich is a hard-noses runner, they'll have to break down and form tackle him to have success.
SB Gee Gee Greene - 5-8, 180 - JR-2L - Columbia, S.C.
Quick Hitter: The former Richland Northeast standout is coming off a season in which he rushed for 492 yards on 72 carries and scored five TDs and caught 18 passes for 286 yards. Greene has carried the ball just eight times this season but has gained 88 yards. The Columbia native will no doubt won't to perform well in his hometown and is considered one of the best athletes on the entire Navy team. Greene isn't big but the slot back can get to top speed in a hurry.

Gamecocks must... take good angles. This goes right back to the other keys listed above. This game is going to be about execution and fundamentals. South Carolina will be more athletic than Navy but they'll need to execute or it could be a long night.
