Five predictions - Navy edition

Over the course of the season, I will be making five predictions for each of the South Carolina football games. Some may be bold, some may be safe, some may be right on target. This week we take a look at the home opener against Navy.

1. South Carolina will force three turnovers.

If there's one thing the Gamecocks have done well this year it is forcing turnovers. Carolina is tied for second in the nation in forcing turnovers with eight. They lead the country with six fumble recoveries. Meanwhile, Navy has fumbled the ball five times through two games, losing three. Quarterback Kriss Proctor has also thrown an interception. Four turnovers against Delaware and Western Kentucky is why I like Carolina forcing three Navy turnovers.

2. Navy will rush for less than 225 yards and two touchdowns.

225 yards rushing sounds like a bad day for a rush defense. When you're facing Navy, that can be a good day. Navy leads all FBS teams with 400 yards per game on the ground and has rushed for seven touchdowns. Carolina will be very physical on defense and will hold Navy to less than 225 yards and just two touchdowns.

3. Clowney records 8+ tackles.

Through the first two games of his collegiate career, Jadeveon Clowney has recorded nine tackles and two sacks. This is the kind of game a player with the combination of speed, strength, and freakish athletic ability on the defensive line can thrive on. Clowney may double his tackle total Saturday.

4. Lattimore rushes for 175 yards and three touchdowns.

It wasn't that long ago when Carolina wold be happy to rush for 100 yards in a game as a team. Rushing for 100 yards has practically become a given for Marcus Lattimore. Navy is giving up 172 rushing yards a game and I dare say most of the Navy players have ever had the task of tackling a running back like Lattimore. Spurrier will ride Lattimore again this week.

5. Ellington breaks one.

Bruce Ellington has been oh so close to breaking one. He has so much speed and has a knack for finding a seam and hitting it hard. This is my boldest prediction of the week, but I think Bruce finally breaks one.
