Wilson High Linebacker Drawing Plenty Of Attention

This 6-2, 225 pound State of South Carolina linebacker is receiving attention from a number of schools. But who is his favorite? ...

The state of South Carolina is loaded with athletes that excel at more than one position. This 6-foot-2, 225-pounder is receiving interest from: Miami, North Carolina, Florida, South Carolina, Clemson, Michigan, Kentucky, Virginia, Maryland, Tennessee, Duke, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Georgia, North Carolina State, Northwestern, and Nebraska. He currently has offers from: North Carolina, Florida, South Carolina, Clemson, Michigan, Kentucky, Virginia, Maryland, and Tennessee.

Lawrence Timmons of Wilson high school in Florence (S.C.) is one the most highly recruited jumbo athletes in the state. He has terrific speed with a forty-yard dash of 4.5 seconds. Timmons bench presses 230-pounds, and squats 450-pounds. While on defense he had 95 tackles, four sacks, and caused four fumbles. On offense he had 42 receptions for 690 yards, and 14 touchdowns. Timmons has all the tools to play linebacker, but he definitely has the hands to play tight end. Some colleges are recruiting him for offense and others for defense. So which position does he prefer to play in college?

"I would like to be a linebacker in college," he said.

Timmons is currently naming six schools that he really likes. They include: Florida, Virginia, Tennessee, Michigan, Maryland, and Miami. (His favorite team growing up.)

So what do they all have in common?

"That's a good group of schools. They all have good academics and good football teams," he said.

He is currently receiving the most mail from Virginia and Maryland. He is looking at the college's academics and football tradition.

What should the lucky team expect from Timmons if they sign him to an LOI?

"I'm going to give them my all, 110-percent."

Does Timmons have his heart set on leaving the state?

"I don't know yet. I like the (South Carolina) linebacker's coach, (Chris Cosh) and all their coaches. The campus is nice."

He is planning to attend the Miami camp 21st of June. He plans to set up a couple more one-day camps soon.
