Davis commits

Stephenson (Stone Mountain, Ga.) four-star running back Mike Davis wasted little time in making a public pledge to South Carolina. Davis, who is on an official visit to Columbia, Tweeted Friday night that he had committed to South Carolina. Other sources confirmed the commitment.

The 5-foot-10, 195-pound back was previously committed to Florida for nearly a year but decommitted to December.

Mike Davis, the brother of former Clemson standout running back James Davis, said in late December that he knew his school but wasn't telling anyone yet. Publicly, he was down to South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Clemson and Florida State as a top five.

Friday night during his official visit he went public with his pledge to South Carolina on Twitter.

Davis was recruited by defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward.

The Army All-American is a consensus four-star prospect and moved up to the No. 10 rated running back in the country in Scout's latest rankings update.

Davis was an impressive performer throughout the week of practice at the Army game.

Scout.com National Recruiting Analyst Chad Simmons said the following in a senior evaluation of Davis in November: "Davis has always had a feel for the game, he is a natural at running back, and he knows the position with the best of them. This season though, he is hitting the holes quicker, he is running through more tackles, and he has become a leader on the field. What is most impressive about Davis's game is his vision and patience."

Davis rushed for 1,923 yards and 21 touchdowns in his senior season.
